John Middleton Shares about the Lives of Clyde and Mary Middleton

Florence, Kentucky – March 30, 2021 – On Monday, March 29, 2021, John Middleton joined the Rotary Club of Florence to speak about his parents, Clyde and Mary Middleton. Both Clyde and Mary were born in 1928 and were well known political figures in our area. Clyde attended the United States Naval Academy and was stationed in Hawaii after he graduated, where he met Mary while she was working with the YWCA.
They eventually married and moved wherever Clyde was stationed for the Navy over his four years of duty. After the Navy, Clyde obtained a job at Proctor and Gamble in Chicago, but was soon relocated to Cincinnati. The Middleton family ended up settling in the Cincinnati area.
After discussing the lives of his parents before politics, Middleton explained their extensive political careers. Mary ran for State Representative in 1959. Clyde ran for United States Congress in 1960 and 1962. Eventually, Clyde was elected to the Kentucky Senate where he served for 18 years. He also served as the Kenton County Judge Executive from 1990 to 1998.
Mary was the first female to ever run for State Representative in Kentucky, making her race extremely historic. She was also known for the extensive amount of volunteer work that she participated in around Northern Kentucky.
Middleton wrapped up his presentation by saying “do good for others,” a quote that his mother stuck by throughout her life.
